If you didn't study history in the state of Texas (neither did Miss Ginger!) you may not realize that Texas has it's very own Independence Day, and it's very own Declaration of Independence! During the American Civil War, Texas left the union again to become part of the Confederate States of America, and was restored with the rest of the South at war's end.
